Shame on NC's Two CBS Stations - WRAL & WFMY
By truth on Sep 28, 2008 | In NC Politics | Send feedback »
I went to an awesome Change We Need Rally where both Senator Biden and Senator Obama came to speak in Greensboro NC. According to Greensboro's Police Department Captain J. E. Wolfe "he estimated about 20,000" attended.1
I was a press volunteer and was stationed with the local news. I met Dan Bowens of WRAL (a Raleigh station with CBS affliation station) and WFMY (CBS affiliate station out of Greensboro) set up their camera in front of me, so I know both stations were there, among others. These two stations are NC's popular stations for the triad and triangle areas. I tend to watch both as I am located in the middle of Greensboro and Raleigh and I like their format, but not their views all the time so I do go to CNN and MSNBC and also read a lot of news stories on the Internet.
So why SHAME on these two stations?
Let us start with WRAL's 11 PM news on Saturday the 27th of September - Dan Bowens did report on the rally. However, during his news clip he interviewed a representative of the Republican party who gave his views yet he did not interview a Democrat representative. One sided politics?
WFMY did not even mention the rally on their 11 PM news segment. Not one single word?
Unfortunately I did not think to tape another station just the two CBS stations. I'll remember next time.
**I do need to mention that WRAL which is a CBS station also does the news for the local FOX station WRAZ.
Websites searched on Sunday September 28, 2008:
ABC11- WTVD Raleigh - not one single comment on the rally. I went through Local, National and Politics - not one mention of the rally.
ABC45 - WXLV Greensboro - not one single mention in their small news video area.
NBC17 - WNCN Raleigh - found link right away on front page.
NBC - MSNBC Winston-Salem - no mention.
FOX8 - WGHP - Front page

Am I the only one who has read the small four page Text of Draft Proposal for Bailout Plan dated September 21, 2008?
It is some scary stuff. It gives the Secretary of the Treasury carte blanche to do anything without any oversight. Without a single person, entity or group to keep an eye on what he can do until "three months of the first exercise of the authority granted in section 2(a) and semiannually thereafter."
What is section 2(a)? "Authority to Purchase. The Secretary is authorized to purchase, and to make and fund commitments to purchase, on such terms and conditions as determined by the Secretary, mortgage-related assets from any financial institution having its headquarters in the United States."
Not only that but it also prevents any review of his decisions. In "Sec. 8. Review. Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency."
It gives the Secretary "authority to purchase mortgage-related assets under this Act...limited to $7000,000,000,000 outstanding at any one time."
Please people read this proposal. See what Nancy Pelosi is talking about on C-Span. This is no small authority we are giving the Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson to do as he pleases. It is very scary stuff.
Is the Title an Oxymoron?

Is the title Truthful Politics an oxymoron? Some might seem to think so. My goal for this site will be to report on local, state and national politics in a non-partisan way. I intend to look at and research issues, statements and voting history and bring these to you in a clear way.
I am a registered Republican who does not vote party lines but truly looks at issues. I watch TV ads, debates, read newspapers, magazines and anything else, I then look up and research the information to see how true they are. Once I am done with my research I then decide who I will vote for.
I truly wish more people did this but I know we all don't have that kind of time, so I am hoping this is a place you can come to and read up on what you hear and find out the truth. I will be doing the research for you.
I look forward to getting to know you!
