Nice catch, truth.
Rob, non-citizen legal residents who work here pay taxes just like everyone else. Much of the cheap labor our country was built on in the past was in fact that of immigrants--the Chinese and Irish built our railroads, the Irish, Italians, and many others built our cities in the Northeast. Also keep in mind that emergency rooms are required to treat people regardless of citizenship status, so you are already paying for many low-income immigrants' care, you're just paying for treating them once they've gotten sick rather than preventing them from getting sick in the first place.
Undocumented aliens are explicitly banned from receiving a health insurance subsidy in HR 3200.

Which brings me back to my original concerns with Universal Healthcare... How much of my tax funds are going to be used by non-citizens and utilize (I will be nice and NOT use the word abuse) all the funds before American Citizens who NEED this support can get it.
I am not saying this isn't great ideal, I am saying the loop holes left in this system are going to run us into the ground through abuse. How about before we support our countries existing cheap labour (Mexico, Philippines, India), and we support the previous cheap labour our country was built on, our elders. :o)

I live in an area plagued with issues stemming from Illegal Immigration. Every day, I see the effects that Illegal Immigration has on my local communities, our local crime rate, and how it effects benefits given to citizens who need it.
Should I be scared about a lot of these changes going on? I believe so, specially when large groups of people are making decisions on what to do with my tax dollars, and soon to be even more tax dollars. I am just not comfortable letting government spend my money anymore, when I know it will be only to serve their interests and lobby panels.
As for truth, here is the truth I can focus on. 25% of my paycheck goes to the City, State and Federal government. These funds are supposed to go to services that would help citizens in need. I have seen the state of California already go broke.
From those truths:
*IF* we get taxed more, how many people are going to drop private insurance, and pick up "free" insurance?
*IF* Everyone starts to migrate to these plans, how long until these bank accounts dry up? Will this limit recipients of these programs?
*IF* These plans do dry up, where will I ever see *MY* return on investment from extra taxes I paid?
I say extra taxes, but I am also counting taxes diverted from programs that have already been cannibalized, such as education.

Rob, I think you need to learn how to think critically. From your post you sound frightened. All these horrible things are going to happen!
Where did you hear all these things? Could it be that the person you heard them all from has ulterior motives? Perhaps they want you to be scared.
You asked a lot of questions. You should research them, and see the lack of truth behind what you are implying. This journal is called truthful politics, and from what I've seen the blogger is trying to critically review what she writes.
Your comments weren't focused on truth, they were focused on fear. Use your mental capacity to overcome your fear.

I just would like to know a few things....
Who is going to pay for the excessive health care? Where are the funds going to come from in an already broke economy? Will they redirect funds from someplace, and will it be robbing from education, or other programs that are still needed? Will there be more taxation on my income to cover this, on top of the extra taxes I am being charged this year by federal and state? Will my funds also be support illegal aliens medical bills even more than they do now? Will my funds be used to pay medical bills for the children of illegal aliens? How can my government explain paying bills for non-citizens or citizens that do not contribute to society when they are able?
Yeah, I say find a less obvious/expensive way to implement Eugenics across our nation. I can find many more cost effective methods in this worlds history... I just don't think it musters up in the morality campaign.
Either way, we aren't stable enough to pay for millions of peoples health bills. Our business leaders are too stupid and greedy, and will lead to a $2000 tongue depressor billed to uncle sam.

The Bailouts are a joke and they go completely against the Constitution.
In fact, most of the decisions made in our Federal Government today are based unlawful according to the Constitution.
If we had sound money, the bailouts would be a non-issue.

I think its great the government took the bailout. As further mis-management takes over and a bigger collapse happens, hopefully the damage will be enough to make sure it does not happen again!

Great post. I have always been a Democrat, unlike many in my family, and I recognize them in the family members you talk about. I wish they would have a more critical eye and do some research for themselves. It's so frustrating, isn't it? You put this into words very nicely. Again, great job!

I really enjoyed this article. I think what you have to realize is that some Republicans, particularly those who came into the party from the so-called "Religious Right" (who, in my opinion, are neither particularly religious nor right!) view party loyalty as almost akin to loyalty to God and country. Never mind that the teachings of Jesus indicate that he would have been very much against some of what the Republicans stand for (he never had much good to say about the "fundamentalist" religious leaders of his day, nor the money changers and other rich and important types), but we've seen this unholy alliance between far-right Christians and Republicans since probably the 1980's at least.
What I'm trying to say is that, just like many religious folks who attend a house of worship each Sunday (or whatever other sabbath they may observe), many staid Republicans prefer to let others do their thinking for them. Heaven forbid you should disagree with their favorite cigar-smoking drug-using paragon of decency and virtue. Their favorite commentator is their political leader and shapes their political thinking just as much as their chosen member of the clergy might shape their ideas on religion. And who are you to oppose the word of God, or the Republican Party? It's worse when it's a parent or family member because when you try to think for yourself they tend to think of you as a traitor to the cause of everything good and just.
Just remember, the louder they argue the more insecure they really are. Deep in their hearts they know they are letting others do their critical thinking for them, and since they know you better than that guy on the radio or TV, you are able to crumble the concrete in the fortress they have built around their mind, and they don't like it one bit - but they can't help but listen. A person who is very confident in their opinions rarely argues vehemently about them (unless maybe they are a hothead by temperament), they just pity the poor misinformed person they believe they are talking to. Insecure people, on the other hand, will first argue loudly and if that doesn't work, they will attempt to shut you out. But that means you have already made an impression!
I think that if the Republicans want to find their real strength, they need to stop pandering to the "religious right." It's all talk anyway - in every major election they send around mailings showing cute babies playing and saying, in effect, that the Republicans are the last great hope to rescind Roe vs. Wade. The problem is that they've been saying this since before Reagan was first elected and during the terms of Reagan, Bush Sr., and Bush Jr. it's been all talk and no action whatsoever. Oh, sure, the FCC and certain congresscritters can raise a big stink and fine broadcasters over a half-second glimpse of Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" (something that would barely raise eyebrows just across the border in Canada, let alone many European countries) and say they are defending "family values" or protecting the children (apparently kids need to be protected from a glimpse of the human anatomy but not from violence, blood and gore), but that's about as far as it ever goes.
One other point: Although Snopes has performed a great service by dispelling Internet rumors, please bear in mind that they are apparently not 100% truthful themselves. It appears that in some cases, if they find information in a book they assume it to be factual, and that's the end of the matter as far as they are concerned. I'm aware of at least one case where they have some disparaging information on their site about an individual that passed away about a decade ago. Were he still alive, there's a pretty good chance he could successfully sue them for libel. But, since he is deceased he cannot defend his reputation, and the Snopes people have simply ignored e-mails from former co-workers and even from his widow trying to set the record straight. It seems they got their information from some book and that's good enough for them.
